CSE Mourns the Passing of Its Founder Chief Executive Officer Mr. AGM Shamsul Kamal

August 9, 2025, Chattogram:

Chittagong Stock Exchange PLC (CSE) deeply mourns the passing of its first Chief Executive Officer, Mr. AGM Shamsul Kamal, who passed away at 12:39 AM last night (Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Raji’un).

Mr. Kamal was a visionary leader who laid the strong foundation of CSE. Together with the then Founder President and former Commerce Minister, Mr. Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, he encouraged leading businessmen from various regions of the country to become members of CSE. Their efforts brought prominent business figures onboard who led the growth of CSE.

Under his leadership, CSE emerged as a dynamic capital market in Bangladesh. He launched the first automated trading system, initiated the establishment of Central Depository Bangladesh Limited (CDBL), and relocated the CSE office to its own premises. He worked diligently to establish good governance at CSE.

He maintained strong relationships with regulators, especially the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), and built links with foreign stock exchanges to gain knowledge and experience. Between 1995 and 1998, he conducted extensive awareness programs that helped popularize the Bangladesh capital market among investors.
