State owned Companies’ Share to Share Market slackened

Newly elected President Mr. Nasiruddin Ahmed Chowdhury says at the 12th AGM

CHITTAGONG, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 15: Speaking at the Twelve Annual General Meeting of CSE on the premises of CSE, the newly elected CSE President Mr. Nasiruddin Ahmed Chowdhury urged Finance Ministry to take best endeavor to offload Govt. owned shares as many as possible to the Stock Market and meet the great scarcity of good shares. Although the Jamuna Oil and Meghna Oil are coming, but the stock market deserves abundant supply of govt. shares.  He also urged to undertake reform policy of debt equity ratio while approving large scale project for financing by the Bangladesh Bank. Stating example of the recent syndicating finance by the leading commercial banks to some large projects such as telecom, manufacturing etc, he said if those funds could be raised thorough our Capital Market, our market capital size would be strengthen enough.

He further said CSE would continue spreading its wings by taking its services to the doorsteps of every investor across Bangladesh to spur investment activities. “We want to reach every segment of investors and channel the pool of small investors’ fund to the development of the country.”

Mr. Nasiruddin Ahmed Chowdhury said the CSE also offers the perfect platform to investors all over the world through its Internet Trading Service. CSE is the third such exchange to have wide area network in the sub-continent out of the thirty-one stock exchanges, after the National Stock Exchange and the Bombay Stock Exchange of India.

He further said, CSE has been maintaining Good Corporate Governance and transparency since its inception. He requested the new Board to maintain this credibility in the future. He also urged and sought Members’ cooperation to increase markets liquidity and trade participation.

As part of the AGM program CSE President awarded with CREST and CERTIFICATES to TOP 5 CSE Brokers for their outstanding trade performance for the year ended 31st December, 2006. LankaBangla Securities Ltd. ranked FIRST, ICB Securities Trading Company Ltd. SECOND, International Securities Company Ltd. THIRD, Salta Capital Ltd. FOURTH and Royal Capital Ltd. ranked FIFTH position.

 

The AGM approved the audited accounts for the year 2006 and re-appointed Rahman Rahman Huq the auditor of the bourse for the next year.

Earlier there was election in CSE for electing four Directors in the new Board. Mr. Nasiruddin Ahmed Chowdhury got highest vote 64, Mr. Md. Siddiqur Rahman got 62, Mr. Mohammad Fakhruddin got 60 and Mr. Bijan Chakroborty got 55 and all of them were elected as new directors of the bourse for a three-year term of 2008-2010.

The new Board in its meeting elected Mr. Nasiruddin Ahmed Chowdhury as President, Mr. Fakhor Uddin Ali Ahmed as Vice President, Mr. Al Maruf Khan, FCA Vice President and Mr. AQI Chowdhury, OBE Vice President for the year 2008.
 
The current CSE Board is composed of twelve elected and twelve non-elected Directors. They are:

Elected Directors: Mr. Nasiruddin Ahmed Chowdhury, President, Mr. Fakhor Uddin Ali Ahmed, Vice President, Mr. Al Maruf Khan, Vice President and Mr. AQI Chowdhury OBE, Vice President and Other Directors are Mr. MKM Mohiuddin, Mr. Mirza Salman Ispahani, Mr. ASM Nayeem, Mr. Abu Sayed Md. Shahidullah, , Mr. Tareq Kamal,  Mr. Md. Siddiqur Rahman, Mr. Mohammad Fakhruddin and Mr. Bijan Chakroborty.

Nominated or Non Elected Directors: Dr. A Majeed Khan, Prof. Abu Ahmed, Engr. Ali Ahmed, Mr. Amir Humayun Mahmud Chowdhury, Mr. Anis A Khan, Mr. Farooq Sobhan, Mr. Mamun Rashid, Mr. Md. Sarwar-E-Alam, Mr. Mohd. Safwan Chowdhury, Prof. Rabiul Husain, Mr. Waliur R Bhuiyan and Mrs. Yasmeen Murshed.

The members also discussed the Annual Accounts of the Exchange and appreciated the activities of the previous board.

The meeting ended with Vote of thanks by CSE’s new President Mr. Nasiruddin Ahmed Chowdhury.
